There isn’t really a point in spending valuable time or money on a proper website, yet shy away from making sure that you got your small business a great web hosting services. Many sites like to group the hosting and domain packages for ease with consumers, but we’ll be discussing more complex methods in the following paragraphs. By the time you’re done, you’ll hopefully be able to make better choices regarding your websites.
At Ctech we make it our mission to do the heavy lifting for you, so you do not have to go through the technical jib jaba! We have tried out a number of small business web hosting companies to give you the best small business web hosting providers based on these benchmarks. Mainly we looked at cloud VPS with SSD.
A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting service. A VPS runs its own copy of an operating system, and customers may have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS.

The Ideal is not just to pick any small business web hosting company, we also needed the best small business web hosting providers specialized in VPS, and they have 2 options : cloud VPS or dedicated Core VPS.
Where Possible pick servers that use SuperMicro enterprise grade servers, and for storage they should use Hyper Converged SSD at minimum requirement. For RAM surely they must use DDR3-1600. Make sure to navigate their site reading carefully into all conditions attached to their offer. “Each VPS node must be stocked with a minimum of 256GB RAM”. For CPU each node should atleast get a provision of dual Intel E5-2680 CPUS with TurboBoost v2 technology which boosts the vCPU frequency up to 3.5Ghz.
Have you seen their site claims and their Cloud VPS “CPU promise that it will not be shared with more than 5 VPSs.”
Where possible it’s important to try out their cheapest VPS to see how it would go before you commit. An upgrade is much easier than you would imagine asking for a refund.
The specs on the server Must Be Met At Minimal:
Plan name : 15GB-R10SSD
- 256MB RAM
- 1 vCPU Access
- 15GB SSD Space – Enterprise Grade SSD
- 1Gbps Network Port
- 1000GB Monthly Bandwidth
- 1 IPv4 Address
- 16 IPv6 Addresses
Small Business Web Hosting Benchmark test 1 – Download Speeds
For the download script test we ran a bench marking download script from Cachefly. We attempted different time throughout the day to get an overall picture of how download speeds perform.
Average download speed from these 3 tests was 795.33 MB/s. this was consistent throughout our testing for the list of small business web hosting providers listed here. For example, tests done later that day (about 5 hours apart from our first batch) were:
The average among these 3 test was 791.66 MB/s
Benchmark test 2- Upload Speeds
For upload we also ran a bench-marking script from cachefly and tested it out throughout the day. Upload speeds tend to vary a bit more than download speeds, but with this VPS, not too widely.
Small Business Web Hosting Testing Day One:
- Average upload speed among the 15 servers tested was 240.08 Mbits/s
Small Business Web Hosting Day Two:
- Average upload speed was 216.73 Mbit/s
In general upload speeds tended to hover around the 220 Mbit/s mark.
Small Business Web Hosting Benchmark 3-Read Tests
For the I/O performance measurements we ran a DD command with data sync and data being read from read from /dev/zero.
There’s almost no variation throughout the day and speed was always 1.5 GB/s or 1.6 GB/s.
- Benchmark 4- Unixbench
- Unixbench Version 5.1.3 test (Multi CPU).
- Total Systems Benchmark Index score of 1851.9
Make sure you are getting a solid performance out of their most basic cloud VPS set up. Plans usually starts at $4.29 a month. There is a whole range of options so you can customize and add ram. storage space, bandwidth, etc. Make sure that the small business web hosting provider you choose to go with has technical support as well, and take an initial test call to see how helpful and generous they can be with your needs.
I’ve always made it a point that I have spoken with the tech team, ask a few questions to understand that they are really knowledgeable and actually helpful.
I’ll try to follow up with screen shots of the bench marking tests when i can post images, but I included an attachment of the complete review with the images included.
Look for the best hosting site for your domain name. Most free sites require you to put their name either before or after your site name in the URL. If you do not want this, you will have to search carefully for a host that suits your needs, even if it means paying for a quality host.
Ensure you pick a web hosting provider that has a very minimal down time and no outages. Host sites that have a lot of outages and don’t have any type of backup plan or prevention plans to keep this from happening are probably not a reliable company that you want to deal with. Frequent outages are unprofessional. It would be unwise to give such a company your business.
Keep track of how many often outages occur and how long they last. If they are too long and too frequent, you should think about choosing a different service. Most services encounter issues once in a while but if they are not fixed quickly, you are not getting your money’s worth.
Chances are, you’ve gained some decent applicable knowledge just from reading the few paragraphs that were listed above. Those paragraphs are held there by quality web hosting, as is this very site and every domain that you see you linked in your current view. If you’re able to sort through the garbage and find the treasure, you’re likely to spot some amazing tools out there.
